Summary

ONE TURKEY FARM, FIVE WILD COLLEAGUES AND A BARN FULL OF MYSTERY

When jilted crime writer August Saunders returns from London to her roots in rural Wiltshire, she feels lost and lacking in inspiration。 Determined to reignite her writing mojo, she responds to an advert for a shared workspace in a converted barn。

At the Hub, with its ill-equipped gym, inedible catering and motley array of fellow users, including a matchmaker more interested in her own conquests and a TikToker with a dodgy nocturnal sideline, August is confronted with a real-life mystery to solve。

Why is Max Ronson, the handsome but volatile owner of the Hub, so evasive about his past? And who or what is he hiding on the premises? She is determined to find out – but will her curiosity snuff out the spark of romance?

Nicola May mixes mischief with mystery in a fast-paced rural romp which will make Futtingbrook Farm as beloved a location as Ferry Lane Market or Cockleberry Bay。

Perfect for fans of Beth O'Leary, Sarah Morgan, Jill Mansell and Cathy Bramley。

I've enjoyed a few of Nicola May's books and was intrigued to read this one。I wasn't disappointed!August is an author with a bit of personal history that she is trying to put behind her。 Moving back to where she grew up, from the busyness of London, she finds it hard to engage in her writing until she is introduced to The Hub and all its inhabitants or users。And some of those slowly become good friends (and more)。There is plenty to laugh about in this book and some quite sad bits, but the story I've enjoyed a few of Nicola May's books and was intrigued to read this one。I wasn't disappointed!August is an author with a bit of personal history that she is trying to put behind her。 Moving back to where she grew up, from the busyness of London, she finds it hard to engage in her writing until she is introduced to The Hub and all its inhabitants or users。And some of those slowly become good friends (and more)。There is plenty to laugh about in this book and some quite sad bits, but the story is well rounded, and the characters are so colourfully written that they lift off the page and dance around in front of you。I want to see a turkey farm now, too, by the way! 。。。more

Fans of Nicole May are going to love her latest novel, The Hub。 I enjoyed this book, but I must admit that it was much more serious than I expected。 The description made this book seem like a light and fluffy romance, but it’s not。 This story has some real depth and takes on some pretty serious issues。 It was well written, and I can tell that Nicole put a lot of thought and time into figuring out how to approach these topics。 I want to let readers know that this book does require a trigger warni Fans of Nicole May are going to love her latest novel, The Hub。 I enjoyed this book, but I must admit that it was much more serious than I expected。 The description made this book seem like a light and fluffy romance, but it’s not。 This story has some real depth and takes on some pretty serious issues。 It was well written, and I can tell that Nicole put a lot of thought and time into figuring out how to approach these topics。 I want to let readers know that this book does require a trigger warning as there is a focus on suicide in the story。 So, if suicide is something that you don’t feel comfortable reading about, then this book will not be for you。 I have to say, Nicole did an excellent job at talking about suicide in a considerate and understanding manner and showing readers the behind-the-scenes of suicide call centres。 It was both heartbreaking and heartwarming reading the scenes where the phone volunteers interacted with whoever was calling the phone lines。 The characters in this book are fun and diverse。 I loved the crazy and endearing group working at the hub。 Their interactions provided some fantastic and funny comic relief to the story。 August is a beautiful main character。 She is fun, kind, and all-around likeable。 I just really enjoyed hanging out with her, and I know if we met in real life, I could see us becoming fast friends。 I did struggle with Max’s character。 I loved him for roughly the first quarter of the book。 The banter between Max and August was just on fire and so on point。 It sort of reminded me of the witty banter that is on Gilmore Girls。 But about halfway through, Max starts to drink more, resulting in him becoming verbally abusive/toxic to August。 I struggled to get past the drunken outbursts, especially when they became more frequent。 There are reasons for Max’s drinking problems; I won’t go into them in this review because I don’t want to give any spoilers away。 But Max’s character re-enforces the notion that we often don’t know what is happening in people’s lives and that we should not judge a book by its cover。 August has several love interests in this story: her ex-fiance who left her for another woman, a tinder hook-up that turns into a friend-with-benefits situation and sort of growing relationship with Max。 Each relationship is different and comes with its own drama。 It was interesting watching August navigate through each of these relationships。 The ending of this book is sweet, charming, and will have your heart pitter-patter。 The Hub is a great summer English romance read。 Thank you, Rachel Random Resources, for the ARC in exchange for an honest reviewClick on the link to read more of our reviews on our blog: https://romancebythebook。com/book-rev。。。 。。。more

Toto, we’re not in Cockleberry any more… I’ve loved Nicola’s previous books。 I wanted to take up residence in Cockleberry Bay but didn’t love this one as much。 The story is great but there’s more swearing than maybe I’m used to in a Nicola book。 It took a while to get into it and I didn’t love it as much as I had hoped I would。 The idea of the alpacas keeping the turkeys out of trouble sounds like great fun。 I love that once again the heroine gets welcomed into a new community and makes great fr Toto, we’re not in Cockleberry any more… I’ve loved Nicola’s previous books。 I wanted to take up residence in Cockleberry Bay but didn’t love this one as much。 The story is great but there’s more swearing than maybe I’m used to in a Nicola book。 It took a while to get into it and I didn’t love it as much as I had hoped I would。 The idea of the alpacas keeping the turkeys out of trouble sounds like great fun。 I love that once again the heroine gets welcomed into a new community and makes great friends along the way。 。。。more

Who is the woman with the Porsche he was arguing with? Of course this being romantic fiction, August falls for Max and it appears the feeling is mutual but he keeps pushing her away with his snarky comments and rudeness。 I can’t believe she kept going back for more as he wasn’t a particularly likeable character, but she saw something behind the mask。As well as trying to write her next book, August decides to volunteer for a crisis telephone line。 One of the phone calls she receives changes her life。I enjoyed the office banter and especially the character of the cook, ‘hot, not or cold’ Beryl who unfortunately tends to make inedible meals but is such a strong character。 I was intrigued to find out what Max was hiding, as was August with her crime writers enquiring mind! I fell in love with Nicola’s writing when I read the Ferry Lane Market series。 I enjoyed The Hub and look forward to reading more from Nicola。 。。。more

Firstly, I have to admit that I was chuckling happily before I even started reading mainly when I read the back blurb and that first line; ‘One Turkey Farm, Five Wild Colleagues and Barn Full of Mystery’ there is something about that one line which appealed to me, so I was very excited to read it, and I even though it took me a little longer to fully get into the story, I have to say it didn’t disappoint by the end。I have read a few Nicola May books before this one, not as many as I really shoul Firstly, I have to admit that I was chuckling happily before I even started reading mainly when I read the back blurb and that first line; ‘One Turkey Farm, Five Wild Colleagues and Barn Full of Mystery’ there is something about that one line which appealed to me, so I was very excited to read it, and I even though it took me a little longer to fully get into the story, I have to say it didn’t disappoint by the end。I have read a few Nicola May books before this one, not as many as I really should have, I had forgotten just how much I enjoyed her light and cheerful writing and even better this one has glorious hints of mystery – always a win, win in my book!August leaves London behind and returns back to her roots in Wiltshire after being jilted。 She isn’t in the best place, hurt, lonely and lost, unsure of where to go from here。 Her writing has come to a halt as she has lost all inspiration for her stories。 A break away from it all is just the thing, so after seeing an advert for a shared workspace in a barn she thinks this will be just the thing she needs to get inspiration and finally get those precious words on the page。What she didn’t expect was an inspiration to literally write and for her to have a real-life mystery to solve, perfect she get her hands well and truly dirty get inspiration, the books can writies itself。 The only issue will be her lust for mystery and wanting to uncover all of The Hub’s own secrets be the cold water on the fire of a budding romance。Tough one, but I’m not telling you what happens, you’ll have to visit The hUb yourself and find out!The Hub is a marvellous mystery romance, it starts off a little slow for my liking but the pacing soon picks up pace especially when August starts delving deeper into the secrets of The Huba and the glorious mysterious Max。I really enjoyed The Hub, it’s got a great mix of intrigue, mystery a little mischief and all the charming feel-good factor that we love about Nicola May’s books, with all that is going on in the world at the minute we need feel-good stories like this to transport us away for a few hours! 。。。more

I have been a fan of Nicola's work for a while now。 I haven't quite caught up with everything that she has written to date, which is something that I hope to rectify fairly soon。 I read the synopsis for 'The Hub' and it certainly sounded like the sort of funny, light hearted, romantic comedy that I have come to expect from Nicola。 Well this book was certainly that and so much more。 I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Hub' but more about that in a bit。As soon as I started reading 'The Hub' I instin I have been a fan of Nicola's work for a while now。 I haven't quite caught up with everything that she has written to date, which is something that I hope to rectify fairly soon。 I read the synopsis for 'The Hub' and it certainly sounded like the sort of funny, light hearted, romantic comedy that I have come to expect from Nicola。 Well this book was certainly that and so much more。 I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Hub' but more about that in a bit。As soon as I started reading 'The Hub' I instinctively knew that I was reading something special and that I would find it nigh on impossible to put the book down for any length of time。 I was drawn into the story from the start。 I absolutely loved the varied cast of characters but my favourite character had to be August, who is a lovely sounding person。 I developed my own theories as to how the story was going to pan out and I have to admit that I was totally wrong。 To say that reading 'The Hub' became addictive is a wee bit of an understatement。 My Kindle wasn't exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me。 I just couldn't bear to miss a single second of the story。 In a way, this book was the perfect pick me up kind of read in the sense that it cheered me up made me chuckle at the start of the story and parts of the story still make me chuckle even now。 I soon got to the end of 'The Hub' and I had to say goodbye to August and the rest of the characters。 For me, 'The Hub' was the true definition of an unputdownable page turner of a read, which I thoroughly enjoyed。'The Hub' is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Nicola May。 Nicola has one of those easy going writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with。 In fact reading one of Nicola's books feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book。 I hope that makes sense。 Nicola creates some adorable characters who are impossible to dislike。 Nicola clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them。 She describes them so well that they seem just as real as you and I。 'The Hub' had the perfect mix of humour and romance with a generous dash of mystery too。 I love the way in which Nicola makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story themselves and at the heart of the action。 In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'The Hub' and I wholeheartedly recommend this book to other readers。 In fact 'The Hub' has to be my favourite book of Nicola's。 I look forward to reading much more of Nicola's work in the future。 The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*。 。。。more

I liked the contemporary setting and the characters in this cosy style romantic mystery。 It's more about friendship and second chance romance than mystery, but the mystery element works as a source of conflict between the two main protagonists。 The plot explores serious issues through its flawed and vibrant characters, and the resultant story is authentic, emotional and immersive to read。I received a copy of this book from the author。 I liked the contemporary setting and the characters in this cosy style romantic mystery。 It's more about friendship and second chance romance than mystery, but the mystery element works as a source of conflict between the two main protagonists。 The plot explores serious issues through its flawed and vibrant characters, and the resultant story is authentic, emotional and immersive to read。I received a copy of this book from the author。 。。。more

Feeling lost, alone and without inspiration for her next book, she decides to respond to an advert for a shared workspace in a barn。
The Hub offers a gym not that well equipped, a catering service best to be avoided and a bunch of fellow users, with their own reasons for renting a space。
Slowly August is finding her mojo back, thanks with the mysteries surrounding the place。 What is the TikToker doing during the night?
And what about the owner of the Hub, Max Ronson? Why doesn’t he want to talk about his past? And what else is he obviously hiding?
And why does August, despite her suspicions, finds herself attracted to him? Okay, this is an easy review for me, because Nicola May did it again。 Just when I think that she has reached her peak, and her best books have been out, she comes again with a great story and gets me hooked from the first page! From the start I sympathized with August (although, I was a bit confused initially as I kept thinking that August was a male name 😊)。
She truly loved her ex and it’s obviously very difficult for her to just start thinking about moving on。
With a gentle push from her sister, she decides to rent out a space at The Hub and then it all takes off。 I was amazed by how easy it all felt at The Hub。 While It could have been a case where everyone just works and doesn’t interact with each other, it felt like a warm, welcoming place, even if the catering services were… well I’ll let you discover that yourself! Being a crime – writer, I perfectly understood August’s investigating wish, wanting to know exactly what is going on at the Hub。 And while maybe I didn’t completely agree with her snooping around, I saw where she was coming from。

Slowly we see the real August again, a caring woman, not afraid of her own sexuality, but also with a tender heart。 She doesn’t hesitate to help out for a good cause and when she starts volunteering, well, it melted my heart and I loved August even more!
And then her attraction towards Max… Max is not always the easiest character to like。 One moment he is super nice, and the next he is being an utter sh*t。 And what about all that mysterious behaviour? It’s clear that it’s something dodge that is going on!
When he is being nice, he is truly easy to like。 I loved the banter he had with August。 And I could for sure understand the attraction。
But when he is being at his worst, it was really hard to like him。 But the better I got to know him, the more I understood that he has his own problems to face, and doesn’t always choses the right way…

This book is filled with hilarious bits, beautiful moments, heart – breaking pieces and with heart – warming actions。 A character like August shows us that behind everything, a whole story is hidden。 And that events of the past can make us take wrong decisions but always with the best intentions。 It’s easy to condemn those who are in the wrong, but it’s better to help them out and not push them deeper。

Nicola May wrote a story that is a slow build – up, but in the end you cannot not be happy about what you have been reading! This was for sure again a marvellous book and I cannot wait what else she has in store for us! 。。。more

Nicola May is one of my ‘go to’ authors, I love every book and recommend them to everyone I meet。 I am always hooked from page one and ‘The Hub’ was no different。 I am such a fan of her style of writing and the ability to make serious issues be delicately woven with comedy, romance, and the odd bit of drama here and there。 Tackling some potentially upsetting themes, The Hub, is another book that presents them carefully and thoughtfully as part of the story and not just for the sake of it。Our mai Nicola May is one of my ‘go to’ authors, I love every book and recommend them to everyone I meet。 I am always hooked from page one and ‘The Hub’ was no different。 I am such a fan of her style of writing and the ability to make serious issues be delicately woven with comedy, romance, and the odd bit of drama here and there。 Tackling some potentially upsetting themes, The Hub, is another book that presents them carefully and thoughtfully as part of the story and not just for the sake of it。Our main character is author, August, and I think she is brilliant; she says it like it is but without hurting people’s feelings, she is empathetic and kind, it isn’t surprising that people seem to warm to her instantly。 Meeting the characters who also work from The Hub was a highlight, what a great group of characters who each bring their own element of fun。 I loved they were all different yet down to earth and fun。 Max is a puzzle, so up and down。 It is clear that he is hiding something but what and why remains a mystery, but one August is keen to solve。 Highs and lows, fun and sadness。 Turkeys, police raids and matchmaking! I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review。I really enjoyed reading this book it was so easy to read and I found myself turning the pages faster and faster until there wasn’t any left to read!!The characters were all very down-to-earth and real and I really enjoyed finding out all of their stories。The storyline flowed really nicely and touched on some tough and I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my Kindle, in return for my honest review。I really enjoyed reading this book it was so easy to read and I found myself turning the pages faster and faster until there wasn’t any left to read!!The characters were all very down-to-earth and real and I really enjoyed finding out all of their stories。The storyline flowed really nicely and touched on some tough and real subjects but they were also written really well。Overall, this was a wonderful read and I will most definitely be coming back for much more from this author……。 。。。more

#ADPRPRODUCT 🖥️When this email dropped into my inbox I only saw that it was a blog tour for @author_nicola May before signing up immediately for it。 Having previously read Welcome to Ferry Lane Market and falling in love her writing I was excited and wishful that I would be accepted。 As luck would have it, that email pinged through, I was accepted, and the cherry on the top being my fellow Bookstagram friend was also accepted too so we decided to buddy read it together。 🖥️This story was a standa #ADPRPRODUCT 🖥️When this email dropped into my inbox I only saw that it was a blog tour for @author_nicola May before signing up immediately for it。 Having previously read Welcome to Ferry Lane Market and falling in love her writing I was excited and wishful that I would be accepted。 As luck would have it, that email pinged through, I was accepted, and the cherry on the top being my fellow Bookstagram friend was also accepted too so we decided to buddy read it together。 🖥️This story was a standalone and it was super easy to get into。 August is a crime author who is missing the workplace and is needing some mental stimulation in the form of office banter。 She stumbles upon the Hub where other solo business owners can work, share ideas and office gossip。 I immediately warmed to the main character of August and her friends at the Hub were so well written I could see them in real life。 I have to say that Beryl was my favourite though and she had me chuckling at her lunchtime outbursts。 Max Ronson however, was a complicated multidimensional character which gave both me and my buddy reader @laureads2021 much to discuss。 What was his back story and why he was doing/reacting in that way? And what better place to base the Hub than in a turkey farm! 🦃🖥️A lot of chick lit/romance novels tend to be sweet and saccharin, and there is a place for them but what I love about Nichola May's writing is that her characters have flaws and the story might be grittier and tackle sensitive subjects but she does so with a realism that I like。🖥️A modern love story for the technological/post pandemic age of lone working。 Loved it。 🖥️🖥️🖥️🖥️🖥️/5 。。。more

Nicola May never disappoints!Another fantastic book by Nicola May, she always manages to pack so many subjects into her books。 I loved The Hub concept, so up to date/current and such an eclectic mix of characters。

I have been a huge fan of Nicola May’s work since I read the Cockleberry Bay series last year。 I love her writing style, this book has humour, heartwarming and heart-braking bits which keep you hooked throughout。I give this book a five star rating and would like to take this opportunity to thank the author for the free copy in exchange for an honest review。
